Benvenuti in Italia!

We’re so excited to have you join us for our wedding in beautiful Tuscany! This stunning region is famous for its cultural treasures, breathtaking landscapes, rich history, and incredible food and wine. The perfect destination for an unforgettable celebration. Here’s a little glimpse of what you can look forward to in this magical part of the world.

Choosing Conti di San Bonifacio for our celebration

Nestled in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, Conti di San Bonifacio is a serene blend of Italian luxury and natural beauty. Situated atop Poggio Divino, or Divine Hill, it offers the intimate setting and stunning backdrop we dreamed of for our wedding celebration. Here, we can satisfy our foodie natures by savouring the flavours of a farm-to-table restaurant and working winery while taking in dramatic views of the Tuscan hills that captivate the senses. We fell in love with Conti for its authentic charm and its celebration of life’s simple pleasures—like a glass of exquisite local wine enjoyed among the olive groves. A true paradise for an unforgettable Tuscan experience.

A land of history and beauty

Tuscany, located in central Italy, is a region known for its rolling hills, charming medieval villages, and Renaissance art and architecture. The region’s capital, Florence, is often considered the birthplace of the Renaissance, home to masterpieces by artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Botticelli. Throughout Tuscany, you’ll find an abundance of historical landmarks, from ancient Roman ruins to the stunning cathedral and piazza in Siena, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the grand palaces and art galleries of Florence. See more on our places to visit.

The region has been at the heart of Italian history for centuries, and its landscapes remain untouched, offering a beautiful backdrop for our wedding day. Whether you’re exploring vineyards, wandering through hilltop towns, or admiring the art, you’re sure to feel Tuscany’s timeless charm.

The tuscan food experience

When you think of Italian food, Tuscany is the place where the classics truly shine. The Tuscan cuisine is simple yet rich, made from fresh, local ingredients that are grown in the fertile soils of the region. Some of the dishes you must try include:

  • Pici: Originating from Siena in Tuscany, pici is a thick, hand-rolled pasta like fat spaghetti - humble yet delicious!
  • Bistecca alla Fiorentina: A huge, mouthwatering T-bone steak that is grilled to perfection, typically served rare.
  • Ribollita: A hearty vegetable soup made with beans, kale, and leftover bread. Perfect for cooler evenings.
  • Panzanella: A refreshing salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and stale bread, drizzled with olive oil.
  • Cantucci: Almond cookies that are traditionally dipped in Vin Santo (a Tuscan dessert wine).

Tuscany is also renowned for its exceptional olive oil—often considered the finest in the world. At Conti di San Bonifacio, you’ll have the chance to enjoy their delicious homegrown olive oil, so good it’s worth having bread at every opportunity just to soak it up!

From vine to wine glass: what to taste

No visit to Tuscany would be complete without experiencing its world-renowned wines. The region is home to some of the best wine-growing areas in Italy, with lush vineyards stretching across the hillsides. The Chianti region, in particular, is famous for its red wines made from the Sangiovese grape. Some other exceptional wines you’ll encounter include:

  • Brunello di Montalcino: A rich red wine made exclusively from Sangiovese grapes grown in the Montalcino area. It’s known for its deep flavors and aging potential.
  • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano: Another exceptional red wine, this one made in the town of Montepulciano, featuring Sangiovese as the dominant grape.
  • Super Tuscan Wines: These wines are blends that can include international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, often with Sangiovese grapes.
  • Vin Santo: A sweet dessert wine that pairs perfectly with cantucci cookies, rounding out a Tuscan meal.

We hope you’ll enjoy some of these Tuscan favourites that we’ve chosen to share with you at our wedding!

Guess the grape: sipping through Tuscany

Tuscany is home to a variety of grape types, which contribute to the creation of its exceptional wines. Some of the most important varieties include:

  • Sangiovese: The backbone of Tuscan wine. This versatile grape produces wines with bright acidity, fruity flavors, and balanced tannins. It’s used in famous wines like Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino, and Vino Nobile. This is the wine variety produced around the Poggio Divino which we will enjoy at the wedding.
  • Canaiolo: Often blended with Sangiovese, this grape adds depth and softness to wines, with flavors of cherry and plum.
  • Merlot: Another popular international variety that adds smoothness and ripe fruit flavors to Super Tuscan wines.
  • Trebbiano: A white grape that is used to make dry, light wines and is a key player in Tuscan white wine blends.

As you travel through the Tuscan countryside, you’ll pass vineyards that have been producing wine for generations. Don’t be surprised if you are invited to taste wine straight from the barrel or learn about the winemaking process from passionate local producers.

Tuscany's cultural riches

Tuscany is a treasure trove of cultural gems, offering a journey through art, history, and tradition. The region is home to Florence’s renowned Uffizi Gallery and Accademia, where masterpieces like Michelangelo’s David and works by Caravaggio and Raphael captivate visitors. Siena’s Palio, a historic horse race in the iconic Piazza del Campo, brings medieval traditions to life, while Lucca’s Summer Festival showcases modern musical artistry. Florence also hosts the lively Calcio Storico, a spirited medieval football game steeped in tradition. Tuscany’s artisans, known for their exquisite leather goods, ceramics, and textiles, carry on centuries-old crafts, with charming shops offering handcrafted souvenirs. Each of these cultural treasures weaves together the rich heritage of Tuscany, making it a region like no other.
